I live in the Subtropics so I have no idea! Everything here is made of nylon or polyester, so none of the jumpers (aka sweaters/jersies) feel warm enough, so I'm going to buy some warm stuff online, but I need to know what to look for and don't want to burn a huge hole in my pocket. We are going snow boarding for 1 week. I have a ski jacket, pants and boots, as well as one set of thermals, and one fleece top/bottom set, 1 merino turtle neck (v. thin), but I don't know what to wear when I'm not snow boarding or if I need more layers when I'm on the snow. Any tips welcome. Thanks!
What type of clothing do you wear in snowy climates? What type of fabrics are the warmest?
Hey there!
When your doing any kind of sport in the snow, always dress up even if you'll get sweaty and hot after only a few minutes of acctivity! For snowborading, wear: Thermal wear on bare skin, then a cotton turtleneck on top, and over that a thick, wool jacket. Wool keep you really really warm and nice and comfortable in warm weather. It's excellent for snow sports!
For the bottom, wear thermal wear, sweat pants, then your polyester ski pants on top!
Also, bring sunglasses and lip balm! They help alot!
Good Luck!!!!

Reply:Well, I am not from the snowy areas, but it sounds like you have a good start on warm clothes. The main thing is to stay dry..so water repellent or water proof outerwear would be very good. And layering is the best way to stay warm...I think natural fibers are very warm...like flannel, thermal cotton, wool, etc. Have fun, be safe and bundle up! Have a great trip.
Reply:in snowy climates nice things to wear would be cotton.. unless you are going to be playing in the snow or skiing then cotton can be the worst.. very warm but soaks water up like a sponge and is uncomfortable.. so if you are not going to be playing in the snow it will be nice.. if not.. just wear layers if its really cold when you will go up.. it deff. is not cold here right now.. no snow yet.. its 40 C right now..
Reply:Silk underwear a real warm and aren't bulky. Wool sweaters are warm. Sticking with the natural fibers is always best. Mother nature knew what she was doing.
