I'd like to get good value for the money, but I want equipment that will last a while - ski's, poles, bindings, boots. I'm willing to spend some money to get something that will last. Also, what's a good store to buy stuff? I live in Detroit. Thanks.
I am a newer Skiier and would like to get good quality/price equipment. What's the best to get? Thanks.?
There are some store that have lease programs. they allow you to rent for the season. This is usually a great bet for a new skier because you get new equipment that you keep with you all the time. Its alot easier to learn on the same pair of skis than on different skis that are in different states of tune. (you may get a rental that has a really dull edge or one with a good edge.)
If youre an athletic person it may be worth buying. You would probably learn faster, and could buy skis that you wouldnt learn out of right away.
Head skis seem to give the most bang for your buck from what I've seen.
Reply:if you are a beginner who has never skied before, I'd suggest that you wait.
if you have rented ski equipments before, u'd know that there are different types of skis for different levels of skiers. If you are a beginner, you'll go with shorter skis (e.g. %26lt;=150CM for a 5'7 person) that are easier to control. as you get better, u'll want to get longer skiers that can get u down the mountain faster. the perfect length of skis depends on ur height.
also, it takes effort to maintain skis. u need to wax them, store them in proper temperature / against the right surface, and etc. it might be a lot to take in when u r just starting.

If you want to wait until October the Toronto Ski Show has a ski and snowboard swap meet upstairs every year run by the Canadian Ski Patrol - undoubtedly the best deals around with expert advice available from volunteer patrollers who will give you good honest advise.
