Girls Feet? What up Doc?

My girlfriend's feet have not been right for over a year now. They are red and inflamed, cracked skin , weeping sores etc. She has been to the doctor and he gave her some antibiotics to cure the problem he also told her to bathe her feet in this purple liqiud which starts off in crystal format. He has also give her steroids to to rub into them , however to no avail. We have just been discussing the issue and we kind of worked out that all this started just after we came back from Austria skiing, and the daft thing was walking in the snow in just her socks as her boots that the place provided were the wrong size. I'm wondering if she develpoed a type of frostbite. She used to have gorgeous feet and was able to wear high heels etc but now the poor thing has to wear trainers for comfort most of the time. Can you please put your thinking caps on and advise on how this may have started and what we can do to erradicate the problem. She's 24 and this really isn't fair for her . CB

Go back to the doctor, or ask to see another and get a second opinion. Rather than being bacterial, could it be fungal?
Reply:Sounds like chilblains which is a mild form of frostbite. Cant remember what causes them but mine are triggered when my feet have been cold and I heat them up to quick (like jumping into a hot bath. I get itchy feet then big swollen blisters which turn into open sores before they heal up. I get a cream called Balmosa which smells a bit like tiger balm and increases circulation to the toes and helps them stay warmer but you cant use it once the blisters have popped. Tell your girlfriend to keep them dry and warm and then avoid getting cold then hot too quickly. The blisters should heal in a week or so and try not to itch!
